Agata Turkot Nominated for the Zbigniew Cybulski Award

Agata Turkot has been nominated for this year’s edition of the prestigious award for talented young actors for her role in the film The Good Home, a project partnered by the Self-Government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

The Chapter of the Zbigniew Cybulski Award has nominated five young actors this year. Among them is Agata Turkot, recognized for her portrayal of Gośka – a victim of domestic violence – in the widely discussed film The Good Home, directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. The director’s latest work was the most-watched Polish film of the past year. Since its premiere on 7 November, it has attracted over 2.4 million viewers to cinemas.

The partner of the film is the Self-Government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. The Good Home received funding from the Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund, and its production involved institutions and individuals from the region. The film was produced by the Bydgoszcz-based company Lucky Bob.

Agata Turkot is a graduate of the Acting Department of the Łódź Film School. Her professional credits include roles in the TV series Na noże, Leśniczówka, and Na dobre i na złe, as well as films such as Wedding, The Taming of the Shrew 2 (Much Ado About Nothing), and Irena’s Vow. She received a Special Jury Award at the Warsaw Film Festival for her performance in The Good Home.

“It is important to start speaking out, to be aware that violence exists and to understand what it is. The point is for us to see one another more clearly, to be more sensitive to each other, and to stop being afraid or ashamed to react,” the actress said during the film’s October premiere at the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz.

Also nominated for the Zbigniew Cybulski Award are Bartłomiej Deklewa, Karolina Rzepa, and Izabella Dudziak, who portray siblings in the feature-length debut There Are No Ghosts in the Apartment on Dobra Street, directed by Emi Buchwald. The director received the Polityka Passport Award in the film category on Sunday.

The fifth finalist is Sebastian Dela, nominated for his role in the diploma film Clowns, directed by Gabriela Muskała, produced by students of the Łódź Film School.

The winner of the Zbigniew Cybulski Award 2025 will be announced on 26 January during a gala at the Iluzjon Cinema in Warsaw. Last year’s laureate was Julian Świeżewski for his role in White Courage.

The winner receives a statuette designed by Paweł Althamer and a cash prize of PLN 10,000, funded by the Polish Film Institute.

The Zbigniew Cybulski Award

The Zbigniew Cybulski Award is a prestigious Polish film award, originally presented from 1969 to 1995 by the magazine Ekran to young actors “distinguished by outstanding individuality,” following the example of its patron, Polish cinema icon Zbigniew Cybulski. The award was conceived by film critic, journalist, and screenwriter Wiesława Czapińska. Its first recipient was Daniel Olbrychski.

After a ten-year hiatus, the award was revived in 2005 by the Kino Foundation, publisher of the monthly magazine Kino. A Chapter approves the nominations, while the winner is selected annually by a jury composed of prominent figures from the world of culture.
