Agata Kulesza to Receive the Golden Angel Award for Creative Rebellion

The actress will receive the award in June during the 24th edition of BellaTOFIFEST in Toruń. The regional self-government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is the festival’s main partner.

The Golden Angel Award for Creative Rebellion is granted by the organizers of the Toruń festival to artists whose work “stands out for its courage, uncompromising nature, and consistent pursuit of their own path.” Previous recipients of the award include Agnieszka Holland, Maja Ostaszewska, Jerzy Stuhr, Mirosław Baka, and Paweł Pawlikowski.

“Agata Kulesza is an artist who sets trends and continually raises the bar of acting mastery. Her performances are creations that cannot be forgotten – they leave a lasting and profound mark on the viewer. Creatively rebellious, unconventional, and escaping obvious interpretations. Consistent and courageous in every choice. A true master. It is both an honor and deeply moving for me that this year Agata Kulesza will receive the Golden Angel Award for Creative Rebellion,” says BellaTOFIFEST director Kafka Jaworska.

Festival audiences will have the opportunity to watch three films featuring outstanding performances by Agata Kulesza. The program includes Róża by Wojciech Smarzowski, Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski, and Moje córki krowy by Kinga Dębska.

“These films showcase different facets of acting: from a harrowing historical drama, through restrained auteur cinema filled with emotional tension, to a moving story about family relationships. Each of these titles is proof of the laureate’s exceptional and diverse talent, and together they create the portrait of a truly rebellious artist,” Jaworska notes.

The organizers also invite audiences to a meeting with the award recipient on Saturday, June 27. “This is a rare opportunity to speak with one of the most important actresses in contemporary Polish cinema,” encourages the festival director.

The 24th edition of the Toruń festival will run from June 27 to July 3, 2026. Screenings will take place at CKK Jordanki, Cinema City, Centrum Kultury Dwór Artusa, and at an open-air cinema.

This year’s central theme will be the film 12 Monkeys directed by Terry Gilliam. At the opening ceremony, audiences will see No Good Men by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat.
