You’re Invited to a Cosmic Event!

A mobile planetarium, the multimedia show The Bright Side of the Moon, astronomy workshops, scientific experiments, telescope sky observations, an astrophotography exhibition, and an electronic music concert – these are just a few of the attractions prepared for participants of the science picnic Return to the Moon. The event will take place on Saturday, July 19th, from 5:00 PM at Wola Zamkowa in Toruń. Admission is free. We warmly welcome families, astronomy enthusiasts, and all those curious about the universe.

For years, we have been combining modern methods of science popularization with the rich astronomical traditions of our region. Events such as this picnic are a perfect example of this approach. I wish all participants a fantastic experience! – said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Organized by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Centre for Education and Innovation in Toruń, the picnic offers a perfect opportunity to spend a summer evening immersed in science and fun. The event commemorates the anniversary of the first human landing on the Moon and aims to promote STEM disciplines – particularly astronomy – in an engaging and accessible way for audiences of all ages.

Among the many attractions, visitors will also find: building models of space vehicles, T-shirt painting, outdoor games and activities with animators, a culinary show featuring a military field kitchen, and a special lecture dedicated to Professor Wilhelmina Iwanowska – a distinguished astronomer, co-founder of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, long-time director of the Astronomy Centre in Piwnice, and former Vice President of the International Astronomical Union. The year 2025 marks the 120th anniversary of her birth.

In September, the Astrobaza Bydgoszcz science picnic will also take place – an educational event held near the Rother’s Mills complex, involving 600 students from 20 primary schools. Participants will be invited to explore the mysteries of space through astronomy shows, hands-on workshops, outdoor games, and interactive science exhibits.

The first stage of registration has already concluded. The second stage will begin on September 1st. Applications will be accepted via the KPCEI website. Each school may register up to 30 students.
