Young people on the future of education
Today (24 June), a unique event took place at the Marshal’s Office in Toruń – the 2025 Student Round Table, attended by secondary school students from across the province. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the problems young people encounter in their schools and to present proposals for changes in the Polish education system.
The event was attended by Michał Koniuch, Vice-Voivod of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Deputy Superintendent of Education Joanna Rek, representative of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń Dr Mariusz Popławski, students, teachers and members of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship Youth Council, which was the originator and main organiser of this project.
The President of the Youth Regional Parliament, Gracjan Szuwała, read a letter from the President of the Regional Parliament, Elżbieta Piniewska, who was unable to meet with the young people in person. In her letter, the chairwoman congratulated the organisers of the initiative and wished them fruitful deliberations, emphasising the importance of dialogue and the involvement of young people: “My heart swells every time I see young people who want to talk and act together! (…) It is you, the young generation, who are the force that has the potential to bring about real change!”
The participants of the event were divided into six project teams of several people, within which so-called small tables were held. Each group consisted of county delegates and school delegates, which ensured a diverse perspective on the issues discussed. These problem-solving groups discussed the most important challenges facing young people in schools, such as issues related to personal development and volunteering.
After the group work was completed, the representatives of the small tables presented their conclusions to the main forum. The solutions developed were discussed, and the best proposals will be forwarded to school principals, the school board and the Ministry of National Education.
The great interest shown by young people in participating in the Student Round Table showed how important it is for young people to be able to participate in decision-making processes concerning their education and upbringing, how committed they are to these issues and how much they want to cooperate – not only with each other, but also with teachers and representatives of local authorities. We congratulate the Youth Council on such a successful undertaking and hope that all the solutions developed during the Student Round Table will be thoroughly analysed by the institutions that decide on the shape of education in our country, and that the most interesting ones will be adopted and implemented.
The event was organised with the support of the President of the Regional Parliament and the Regional Parliament Office.
