World Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26: the entire region will be part of it!
Only six months remain until the world’s most important indoor athletics event. On Monday (September 22), Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska, Member of the Parliament Iwona Kozłowska, and Vice President of the Polish Athletics Association Krzysztof Wolsztyński launched the countdown clock to the championships.
“The World Indoor Championships in Athletics are approaching fast. Never before has our region hosted an athletics event of this rank. It is a great honor, but also a responsibility to welcome the world’s best athletes and fans from around the globe, while at the same time promoting our region as a place not only ready to organize a top-level sporting event, but also to create an atmosphere of openness and community,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki at a press meeting. “We also want the championships to be an opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle. We are planning many projects to encourage physical activity, especially among young people. In every municipality of our region, we will organize sporting competitions to select young participants who will take an active part in the opening ceremony.”
The World Indoor Championships in Athletics Kujawy Pomorze 26 will be the biggest athletics event in the history of the region and the second of this rank ever held in Poland.
Preparations are in full swing. At the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Arena Toruń, the venue for next year’s competitions, work is nearing completion on the replacement of the athletics surface. The new track meets the standards set by World Athletics, giving the facility certification to host top-level competitions. Preparations for the 2026 World Championships also include modernization of telecommunication infrastructure, roof repairs, renovation of corridors and locker room facilities, upgrades to the water and sewage system, and improvements to access roads.
The logo and official graphics of the championships were unveiled during a March press conference held by Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Polish Athletics Association Vice President Krzysztof Wolsztyński. At that time, the World Athletics flag, traditionally passed to the host organizers, was also raised in front of the Marshal’s Office building.
Volunteer recruitment for the event runs until October 20.
