The opening ceremony and the first day of competition at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 2026 are now behind us. During the afternoon session, Klaudia Kazimierska (LKS Włocławek) advanced to the 1500 meters final, and Natalia Bukowiecka qualified for the 400 meters final. “Greetings to the whole world from Poland – a country of the struggle for freedom and the birthplace of Solidarity, the homeland of Frédéric Chopin, Pope John Paul II, and Lech Wałęsa, a country of Irena Szewińska and Bronisław Malinowski,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the opening ceremony. “Sport teaches perseverance, humility, and responsibility […] it is a force that unites people beyond all divisions […] a universal language expressing mutual respect. May this athletics relay from Kujawy and Pomorze reach the entire world, bringing joy, peace, and hope.”

I am convinced the next three days will be a fantastic celebration of athletics,” said Jakub Rutnicki.

Natalia Bukowiecka confidently advanced to the final (March 21), winning her semifinal with a time faster than in the heats (51.41). Klaudia Kazimierska, after an impressive final lap, moved up to second place, finishing in 4:11.33. Her final will take place on Sunday (March 22).

We will not see Kamil Herzyk in the 1500 meters final. Dominik Kopeć and Oliwer Wdowik have also been eliminated from medal contention.
