What an evening! Jakub Szymański became the world indoor champion in the 60 meters hurdles—he was unbeatable in the final. Natalia Bukowiecka won a silver medal in the 400 meters in great style, equaling her own national record with a time of 50.83. Earlier in the morning session, Poland’s mixed relay also claimed bronze—bringing the total to three medals on day two of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 2026. We also witnessed a world record in the heptathlon by Simon Ehammer.

From the very start of the afternoon session, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Arena was buzzing. On the runway for the pole vault appeared the phenomenal Armand Duplantis, a 15-time world record holder. Three athletes cleared heights above 6 meters—silver went to Emmanouil Karalis, and bronze to Kurtis Marschall. “Mondo” secured his fourth world indoor title with a jump of 6.25 meters.

Simon Ehammer finished the combined events with a record-breaking total of 6,670 points, improving a 14-year-old world record.

Polish fans were especially excited for the sprint events. The unbeaten Jakub Szymański—who won all his races that day, including heats and semifinals—defeated the world’s best in the final, finishing in 7.40 and securing Poland’s first-ever gold medal in the 60 meters hurdles.

More joy came from Natalia Bukowiecka, who won her final race in 50.83, matching her national record. In the second heat, victory went to Lurdes Gloria Manuel. After comparing results from both heats, Bukowiecka secured the silver medal.

The afternoon session was preceded by a medal ceremony, with the top honors presented by Piotr Całbecki.
