When Tradition Meets Art – A Christmas Nativity Scene in Front of the Marshal’s Office

Christmas is fast approaching, and a truly festive atmosphere already surrounds the Marshal’s Office. For several years now, residents and visitors have been able to admire a unique Christmas nativity scene, whose interior is created by students of the Leon Wyczółkowski Secondary School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz.

“The most beautiful holidays in our tradition are approaching, filled with love and family warmth,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “May this time pass for you in health and peace, and bring relief from everyday difficulties.”

The nativity scene features figures of the Holy Family, the Three Kings, and animals, as well as images of saints: St. Stanislaus Kostka, St. Therese of Lisieux, and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. The project’s creators also drew inspiration from world art – homage to the newborn Christ is paid by figures of Gustav Klimt, Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Pablo Picasso.

The Leon Wyczółkowski State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz, operating continuously since 1945, is one of the oldest and most distinguished art schools in the region. The institution combines artistic and general education, and its students and graduates achieve success in Poland and abroad, actively participating in the cultural life of the region. This year, the school celebrates the 80th anniversary of its founding.

The Christmas nativity scene is one of the school’s most recognizable projects and delights residents every year, combining holiday tradition with art. Complementing this unique arrangement is the Advent calendar decorating the front of the office, which – together with the nativity scene and the Christmas tree – creates a distinctive festive atmosphere.
