
What a Texas! – welcome to the art competition
Together with the Gallery and Centre for Children’s Artistic Creation in Toruń, we invite young people to participate in the art competition ‘What a Texas!’ This is an opportunity for adept visual artists to tackle the theme of the American South and demonstrate their creativity. We are waiting for entries until 30 April.
– I am curious about your artistic interpretation of our collaboration with our US partners. I am also convinced that in your works you will try to reflect the Texan spirit, the history of this American state, the richness of this land and its culture,’ encourages Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The competition is dedicated to children and young people from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as participants of classes in cultural and educational institutions and private art studios throughout the province.
Age categories:
- 6-8 years
- 9-12 years old
- 13-15 years old
- 16-18 years old
Participants can produce works in one of the following techniques:
- drawing, painting, printmaking (intaglio, relief print, mixed techniques)
- additionally for the age category 16-18: design graphics and printmaking (lithography and screen printing)
- works should not exceed A2 format.
Subjects to choose from:
- Dallas, Houston, San Antonio… – in other words, in the big city
- oil, cotton, horses, cows… – or Texas riches
- how the Wild West was conquered… – a bit of history
- rodeo, football, barbecue… – or Texas entertainment.
The works should be delivered to the gallery at Rynek Nowomiejski in Toruń. The winners of the competition will be announced in the first half of June 2025. Twelve main prizes and 12 distinctions will be awarded in each age category.
