We’re opening Ciechocinek to new opportunities
Meeting the needs of residents and visitors alike, the regional government – which organizes passenger rail transport in the region – is launching regular train services to Ciechocinek. Starting on December 14, thirteen pairs of trains will run daily along the newly modernized line leading to the spa town’s famous graduation towers.
– We’re opening Ciechocinek to rail connections – emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – This is a very important project that serves not only the development of the spa itself. I’m glad it will make daily commutes to work and school easier for residents. We have adjusted the timetable to suit people using public transport.
The modernization of railway line no. 245 (Aleksandrów Kujawski – Ciechocinek) included the replacement of 12,000 sleepers, renovation of 8 level crossings, and upgrades to the platforms in Ciechocinek, Odolion, and Aleksandrów Kujawski. The total cost of the project is 47 million PLN.
Once completed, trains will be able to run at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Passengers will reach Ciechocinek from Aleksandrów Kujawski in 10 minutes, and from Toruń in just half an hour. Starting in 2026, direct trains from Bydgoszcz to the spa town will also be introduced.
Passengers over the age of 65 will pay only 4 PLN for a ticket on this route, and during the first month of operation, everyone will be able to travel for a symbolic 1 PLN.
The regional government highlights its strong cooperation with PKP PLK, the national railway infrastructure manager, during the modernization project, as well as with PKP S.A., the company managing railway properties, which will renovate the Ciechocinek station building. PKP’s management has allocated 15 million PLN for the restoration of the historic structure. In December, passengers will use a temporary station building until the renovation is completed.
Beyond the railway
Earlier this year, the regional government took over the disused brine pool located next to the town’s iconic graduation towers, which will soon be restored. The marshal plans to establish a sports center there.
– These investments open new opportunities for the spa, but they’re not the last ones. We’re planning the renovation of the brine pool and the creation of a professional sports center – a place designed for training camps and athletic events, declares Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
