We’re Going to Ciechocinek!
The reintroduction of railway connections to Ciechocinek attracted huge interest. On the first train departing today (14 December) from Toruń station, the train was overbooked, and a crowd of local residents welcomed the arriving passengers at Ciechocinek station. The launch of services to Ciechocinek was made possible through cooperation between the region self-government, which organizes passenger rail transport in the region, the infrastructure management company PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK), and local governments: Aleksandrów County, the cities of Aleksandrów Kujawski and Ciechocinek, and the Aleksandrów Kujawski municipality. The inaugural ride was attended by Marshal Piotr Całbecki, President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, and Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska. Regular services begin on Monday (15 December).
Also present at the ceremony were regional partners: PKP PLK CEO Piotr Wyborski, Acting President of Polregio Aleksandra Grzywaczewska, Mayor of Ciechocinek Jarosław Jucewicz, Aleksandrów County Starosta Lidia Tokarska, Mayor of Aleksandrów Kujawski Arkadiusz Gralak, and Aleksandrów Kujawski Municipality Head Andrzej Olszewski. Senators, members of parliament, and regional councillors also attended.
“With great joy, we are resuming rail services to Ciechocinek. I am pleased that this connection improves the quality of life for residents who will use it daily,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the inauguration. “I thank the Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak and PKP PLK for the efficient completion of this investment. It is an example of rapid and successful railway infrastructure modernization. Aleksandrów County municipalities also invested wisely, financing five out of thirteen connections between Aleksandrów and Ciechocinek. By jointly investing in safe, ecological, and comfortable rail transport, we are also investing in the future and development of this part of the region.”
“This event is not only an infrastructure achievement but also a social and cultural milestone,” added President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska.
“Thirteen pairs of connections are being launched from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek, five of which continue to Toruń. Next year, direct services from Bydgoszcz are also planned. All trips will be coordinated with trains from Włocławek. Annually, our trains will cover 133,000 kilometers on this route,” said Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska.
Mayor of Ciechocinek Jarosław Jucewicz recalled the two years of work preceding the first train’s arrival, emphasizing that residents can now reach one of Poland’s most famous spa towns by regular train service. PKP PLK CEO Piotr Wyborski highlighted the scope of the investment and thanked all project partners for excellent cooperation. Acting Polregio President Aleksandra Grzywaczewska noted that the revived connection significantly improves daily mobility for residents, contributing to the carrier’s mission of combating transport exclusion.
Students from the Technical School of the Bydgoszcz Vocational Development Centre in Aleksandrów Kujawski, specializing in railway transport, also participated, along with their director, Mariusz Fiałkowski, teacher Anna Katowicka, and reserve captain Sylwester Maziark.
Until 15 February 2026, passengers on the Aleksandrów Kujawski – Ciechocinek route pay a symbolic fare of 1 PLN. After that date, a special offer for seniors over 65 will be introduced, with tickets costing only 4 PLN.
Passengers will travel on Polregio trains, and the region self-government will allocate 32 million PLN over the next five years for these services.
New Station
The inauguration followed the modernization of railway infrastructure. On the seven-kilometer Aleksandrów Kujawski – Ciechocinek section, Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe replaced 12,000 sleepers, renovated eight railway crossings, and modernized platforms at Ciechocinek, Odolion, and Aleksandrów Kujawski. PKP SA will renovate the currently secured station building, with completion expected next year. Until then, passengers will use a temporary station.
Consistent Investment in Rail
The new timetable comes into effect on 14 December. In 2026, the region self-government, organizer of regional passenger rail services, will increase spending on rail to 267 million PLN, including 37 million PLN for infrastructure access and station fees. Trains will cover 7.5 million kilometers – 1.3 million more than this year.
The region owns three-quarters of the trains (37 units) serving regional passenger routes. In 2027, seven modern electric trains produced by Pesa in Bydgoszcz will enter service.
