We support private adoption centres
The regional government has allocated PLN 3.3 million to support adoption and foster care activities. These funds will go to the Diocesan Adoption and Care Centre in Toruń. The funding was awarded as part of an open competition for non-governmental organisations to carry out public tasks.
‘Non-public adoption centres are an extremely important segment of the social welfare system. They support families on their way to parenthood, care for women and girls expecting a child, and help with everyday parenting challenges. Thanks to the support provided, the centre will be able to effectively carry out its important tasks,’ emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The agreement with the centre provides for the implementation of the task over a five-year period – until the end of 2029. The centre deals with, among other things, the diagnosis, training and qualification of candidates for adoption, the selection of suitable adoptive families and the provision of psychological and pedagogical support to both adoptive and biological families. Assistance is also provided to people considering consenting to adoption.
The centre actively cooperates with orphanages, hospitals, single mother homes, social welfare centres, district family assistance centres, courts and other adoption centres. Thanks to this extensive cooperation, it can also effectively support pregnant women and young girls who find themselves in difficult life situations.
In addition to the Diocesan Adoption and Care Centre in Toruń, there are two other centres in the region authorised to conduct adoption procedures: the public Kujawsko-Pomorskie Adoption Centre in Toruń (with branches in Bydgoszcz, Włocławek and Inowrocław) and the Non-Public Adoption Centre of Caritas of the Diocese of Bydgoszcz named after Blessed John Paul II in Bydgoszcz.
The regional government supports projects implemented by non-governmental organisations in the fields of culture, sport, addiction treatment, social assistance, health care, tourism, activities for people with disabilities and the development of civil society. This year, we have allocated PLN 6.5 million in 22 grant competitions.
