We look forward to blood donors on Thursday
Despite advances in medicine, it has not yet been possible to create a substance that can fully replace human blood. On Thursday (20 February), a special ambulance of the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Haemotherapy in Bydgoszcz, in which people can donate blood on an honorary basis, will be at Teatralny Square in front of the Marshal’s Office building in Toruń. The campaign is repeated every third Thursday of the month.
– Your blood can save the health or life of another human being. I appeal to everyone who can do so to take part in our campaign,’ says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Who can become a donor?
Blood can be donated by adults up to 65 years of age, who are healthy, have no symptoms of infection and weigh no less than 50 kilograms. Those who volunteer to donate blood should carry a photo document proving their identity and PESEL number. Before donating blood you should drink about 2 litres of liquids (mineral water, juices), have a good night’s sleep and rest, have a light meal, eliminate animal fats from your diet if possible, limit smoking and do not drink alcohol (also on the day before donation).
Donating blood is safe – only disposable equipment is used for this purpose, so there is no risk of infection with blood-borne viruses. The visit to the ambulance begins with the completion of a questionnaire and registration, as well as the collection of a blood sample and a medical examination. The donation itself takes about 5-10 minutes (usually one unit of whole blood, i.e. 450 ml, is collected) and is followed by a 15-minute rest, after which the donor receives the caloric equivalent (chocolates and juice).
The ambulance of the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Haemotherapy will be parked on the square in front of the Marshal’s Office on Thursday 20 February. Attendants will be waiting between 1 and 5 pm.
There will still be blood donations on the square in front of the Marshal’s Office on 2025:
- 20 March
