We Are Launching Initiatives for the Future Military University in Toruń
The regional government, the Jan Czochralski Regional Science and Technology Center, and the Torun Missile and Artillery Training Center will jointly work to establish a military higher officer school in Toruń and promote the “development and institutionalisation” of regional expertise in battlefield support, including combat medicine.
The agreement stipulates that these three entities will collaboratively prepare the substantive, organisational, and conceptual foundations for the operation of the future officer school in Toruń, which will be presented to the appropriate government institutions, including the Ministry of National Defence. The regional government will assume responsibilities such as coordinating activities, providing organisational and promotional support, and representing the project in contacts with central government institutions.
Speaking to journalists before signing the document, Piotr Całbecki explained that the involvement of the Czochralski Center, a unit of the regional government, is crucial both at the stage of preparing analyses and conceptual foundations for the future military university and later, when the established school will require academic staff.
“We are creating a proven family of artillery specialists who understand the role of artillery—historical, educational, motivating us to think about our homeland and defence, while also pointing to the contemporary direction of defence development. Missile forces are a foundation of security—past, present, and future. The agreement signed today is fundamental for the development of our region and for achieving our dream: to make science the basis of an innovative economy. It would be insufficient to merely purchase technologies without understanding them. Science, including R&D work by scientists in uniform, is a vital contribution to the development of our region and our country,” he emphasized during the ceremonial meeting with the officer corps of the Toruń Garrison and the community surrounding the Missile and Artillery Training Center, held at the Fortress Museum Toruń alongside the signing ceremony.
During the same event, the Marshal was awarded the Three Nations Hero Medal of General Józef Bem, presented by the Patriotic-Educational Association Memory.
