We Are Developing and Modernizing Transportation
The year 2024 brings many positive changes in transportation: new railway and bus connections, the purchase of rail vehicles and hybrid buses, and the introduction of metropolitan tickets in the largest cities of the province.
– We remain committed to public transportation,– emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – We are responding to residents’ feedback, launching new connections, purchasing modern rolling stock, and renovating infrastructure. Our goal is to provide passengers with a high standard and comfortable travel experience.
To the Sea
The Rybitwa train, a new addition to the timetable, carried eight thousand passengers, regularly operating on weekends during the summer on the Toruń–Kołobrzeg route. On average, each train carried 192 passengers. A record-breaking journey occurred on August 3, with 394 passengers traveling toward Kołobrzeg. This seasonal connection will continue in July and August 2025.
The positive changes to rail connections to the seaside don’t stop there. In the new timetable effective December 15, 2024, the Barnim train runs from Bydgoszcz Główna station to Szczecin Główny station. Co-financed by the regional self-governments of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie, and Zachodniopomorskie Region, Barnim makes it easier for passengers to reach the capital of Zachodniopomorskie and the western coast.
At Residents’ Request
Responding to passengers’ requests, the last train operating on weekdays from Toruń to Jabłonowo Pomorskie via Kowalewo and Wąbrzeźno now also runs on Saturdays.
In October, at the request of residents, a weekend train service was launched between Bydgoszcz and Toruń, enabling part-time students to attend classes.
To meet the needs of students and schools, a new train route from Czersk to Laskowice Pomorskie was added to the timetable, now running not only on weekdays but also on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
We also introduced additional Sunday connections from Chełmża to Bydgoszcz (railway line 209).
At the request of passengers from the Ostaszewo Economic Zone, a new train was added to the timetable, operating from Toruń Główny to Chełmża, facilitating the commute home after work.
A new pair of trains has also been running for a year between Czernikowo and Toruń. The annual cost of maintaining these additional train services is 540,000 PLN, with 40% covered by the regional government and the remainder shared by the local governments of Toruń, Toruń County, and the municipalities of Lubicz, Obrowo, and Czernikowo.
From October 1, passengers can use the new Grudziądz Rządz trains stop.
Traveling to Ciechocinek
In October, the regional government, the Ciechocinek municipal government, and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe signed an agreement to renovate railway line 245 from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek. After modernization, train connections from Toruń to Ciechocinek will be included in the timetable in December 2025.
New Rolling Stock
With 240 million PLN from the EU regional program European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027 and the state budget, we will purchase seven trains to serve residents of our region starting in 2027. These trains will be built and delivered by Bydgoszcz-based Pesa.
Using 91 million PLN from the National Recovery Plan (KPO), the regional government will also buy 25 electric and 15 hybrid low-floor buses to service intercity lines in the region.
