Today is World Down Syndrome Day

At the invitation of the voivodship councillor Anna Niewiadomska, the Marshal’s Office was visited yesterday (20 March) by a group of wards of the Trisomiaki Foundation in Bydgoszcz, with whom the Marshal Piotr Całbecki and the president of the regional parliament Elżbieta Piniewska met. Also today, Deputy Marshall Zbigniew Ostrowski participated in a ceremonial meeting devoted to the presence of people with Down’s syndrome in the public space at the Youth Palace in Bydgoszcz.

The meeting in Bydgoszcz was organised by the community centred around the local social initiative Children’s Graffiti. The programme also included, among other things, an expert debate on the images of people with trisomy 21 reproduced in media messages, especially in films, with the participation of, among others, doctors and film critics.

The focus of the meeting at the Marshal’s Office in Toruń was a short lesson on the role and importance of regional government in building the social reality of the region, including the creation of conditions for the personal development of people with disabilities. Earlier, the foundation’s charges had viewed with interest a mini-exhibition of art works submitted for the competition ‘Always green, always blue’ by the Children’s Art Gallery and Centre, displayed in the hall of the Marshal’s Office.
