To the graduation towers in Ciechocinek with Polregio

Starting in December, residents and visitors to Ciechocinek will be transported by trains operated by Polregio, which won the tender for transport services on the Bydgoszcz-Toruń-Otłoczyn-Ciechocinek route. The provincial government, which organises passenger rail transport in the region, will finance at least eight pairs of trains, which will run to Poland’s most famous health resort from 2025 to 2030. The reactivation of the connections is the result of an agreement signed in October 2024 at the Marshal’s Office between the provincial government, the railway company and the local government of Ciechocinek.

Ciechocinek is returning to the railway map of Poland. I am convinced that the reactivation of the connection, which will become our showcase, will be appreciated by both spa guests and residents. They will benefit from the best rolling stock we have at our disposal,’ emphasised Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Polregio will carry out the task for PLN 32 million. From 14 December, the carrier will provide a minimum of eight pairs of trains from Ciechocinek to Aleksandrów Kujawski. At least one train will go directly to Bydgoszcz, and transfers in Aleksandrów Kujawski will be organised in such a way as to facilitate travel for passengers from Włocławek.

People over 65 will pay only PLN 4 for travel on this route, and in the first two months of operation, all passengers will pay only a symbolic PLN 1. The trains will be air-conditioned, modern and adapted to carry bicycles.

Before launching the service, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe commissioned a thorough renovation of the Aleksandrów Kujawski – Ciechocinek line, which is being carried out by Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe.

After the renovation of the seven-kilometre railway line, trains will run at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. In addition to the reconstruction of the track, the platforms in Ciechocinek, Odolion and Aleksandrów Kujawski are being renovated and will gain new shelters, benches and energy-efficient lighting. The railway traffic control and traction network equipment is also being modernised. The cost of the project is PLN 47 million.

The local government of Ciechocinek has committed to building infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, a car park and safety-enhancing architectural elements around the station.

The provincial government organises passenger rail transport in the region and is subsidising it this year with PLN 237 million. These are the costs of compensation for Arriva and Polregio, as well as the costs of access to railway infrastructure and station fees – PLN 31.3 million.

In addition, the provincial government has purchased and owns three-quarters of the trains (37 sets) serving passenger connections in our region. In 2027, seven modern electric trains manufactured by Pesa in Bydgoszcz will join the fleet.
