To Rypin and Brodnica with Arriva
From December 2026, at least six pairs of trains will operate regular passenger services on the Rypin-Brodnica line, financed by the regional government. The return of trains is preceded by the renovation of railway infrastructure carried out by Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe from Gdańsk on behalf of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe. The tender for the operation of this line was won by Arriva.
‘Every year, the regional rail network is becoming denser. Regular passenger trains will return to Rypin after a 25-year break. This year, we are also restoring rail connections with Ciechocinek,’ emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
On the Rypin-Kretki-Brodnica route (railway line No. 33), the contractor is replacing the rails with sleepers and repairing 32 engineering structures (bridges, viaducts and culverts), and will then adjust the track. New surfacing will be laid on the second platform of the stop in Kretki (Brodnica County) and on seventeen level crossings. In the autumn of next year, a new railway stop, Brodnica Południowa, will be put into service on this route.
Renovation work will also be carried out on railway line 208 between Jabłonowo Pomorskie and Brodnica, which will include the replacement of sleepers and rails, the repair of 41 engineering structures and the modernisation of thirteen crossings. Platforms and access to them in Brodnica, Konojady and Najmowo (Brodnica County) will also be modernised.
Thanks to the investment, trains will run at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, and the journey time from Rypin to Jabłonowo Pomorskie will be reduced by 15 minutes.
This autumn, work will also begin at the station in Rypin, where a new platform will be built and the existing one will be modernised. The height of the platforms will also be changed, which will make it easier to board trains. After the reconstruction of the tracks, passenger trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. The renovation will be completed in mid-2026.
The regional government, which organises passenger rail transport in the region, will launch regular connections from Brodnica to Rypin in December 2026. Until 2030, they will be operated by Arriva, a company selected in a tender procedure.
During the first month (from 13 December 2026 to 17 January 2027), a special fare will apply on both sections – the ticket price will be PLN 1. For passengers over 65 years of age, tickets will cost only PLN 4 for the entire duration of the contracts.
The regional government will allocate PLN 237 million in subsidies for passenger rail transport in the region this year. This amount includes compensation costs for Arriva and Polregio, as well as costs of access to railway infrastructure and station fees – PLN 31.3 million.
We have purchased and own three-quarters of the trains (37 sets) serving passenger connections in our region. In 2027, seven modern electric trains – air-conditioned, energy-efficient and packed with electronics – manufactured by Pesa in Bydgoszcz will join the fleet.
