To Brodnica, Rypin, and Wierzchucin faster than by car – and for just one zloty
Starting in December 2026, at least six pairs of trains will carry passengers daily on the railway lines between Laskowice Pomorskie–Wierzchucin and Rypin–Brodnica. Today (July 21), Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska signed contracts for transport services on these two routes at the Marshal’s Office with Arriva’s CEO Daniel Adamka and Vice President Marcin Polewicz. The carrier, selected through a tender process, will operate the services until 2030.
“Regional rail connections primarily serve the residents of our region, allowing them to travel safely and comfortably to work, school, and for leisure. Every year, we expand our transport offer. The regional rail system organized by the regional self-government is thriving. The trust of passengers – as shown by the numbers – has been built through punctuality and consistent scheduling. Our trains have already transported 8 million passengers,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
“Travel time is the most important factor for these connections,” added Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska. “Passengers will cover the route between Laskowice Pomorskie and Wierzchucin in 33 minutes aboard comfortable and air-conditioned trains – 6 minutes faster than by car. The Rypin–Brodnica route will take just 23 minutes – several minutes faster than by bus.”
The signing ceremony was also attended by representatives of local governments along the new Arriva routes: Rypin County Head Jarosław Sochacki, Świecie County Head Paweł Knapik, Brodnica County Board Councilor Piotr Grążawski, Mayor of Rypin Paweł Grzybowski, Cekcyn Commune Head Jacek Brygman, Jeżewo Commune Head Maciej Rakowicz, Deputy Mayor of Brodnica Krzysztof Hekert, and Head of the Construction and Transport Department of the Tuchola County Office Zofia Hekert.
At Least Six Pairs of Trains Daily
Trains will begin operating in December 2026 and continue until 2030. During this period, there will be at least six pairs of trains daily on the Brodnica–Rypin and Laskowice Pomorskie–Wierzchucin routes.
The regional self-government will allocate 15 million PLN for service on the Laskowice Pomorskie–Wierzchucin route (with the possibility of extension to Grudziądz and Chojnice) and 13 million PLN for the Brodnica–Rypin route (with a potential extension to Grudziądz and Toruń).
Negotiations have begun with the Mazowieckie regional self-government to extend the Rypin–Brodnica train route to Sierpc.
During the first month of service (from December 13, 2026, to January 17, 2027), tickets on both routes will cost only one zloty. For passengers aged 65 and older, tickets will cost just 4 PLN for the entire duration of the contract (until 2030).
Services will be provided by modern trains equipped with air conditioning, restrooms adapted for people with disabilities, and space for at least four bicycles.
Railway Infrastructure Upgrades
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe is carrying out modernization work on the railway infrastructure in Rypin and Brodnica. The renovation follows negotiations between the regional self-government and the railway company, resulting in an investment that will allow for safe and efficient passenger rail transport.
In December this year, after 14 years, we succeeded in restoring rail connections from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek.
The regional self-government organizes regional rail passenger services and is subsidizing them this year with 237 million PLN. This covers compensation for Arriva and Polregio, as well as access charges for railway infrastructure and station fees—totaling 31.3 million PLN.
We also own three-fourths of the trains (37 units) operating regional passenger services in our area. In 2027, seven new electric trains manufactured by PESA in Bydgoszcz will be added to the fleet.
