“They Created Our History” – Congratulations to the Winners!
We have met the winners of the Professor Elżbieta Zawacka regional competition, “They Created Our History.” The jury selected the laureates from among seventy submitted works.
“Participating in the competition is a great opportunity to develop historical knowledge about our region and to document local history based on the memories of witnesses, as well as photos and memorabilia preserved in family and public archives,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “Thank you for all the submitted entries and congratulations to the winners!”
The jury awarded the following prizes:
- In the category of students from grades VII and VIII of primary schools:

- 1st place: Antoni Pogorzały, Zespół Szkół nr 8 im. 3 Warszawskiego Pułku Pontonowego, Włocławek
- 2nd place: Urszula Nowakowska, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 57 im. Towarzystwa Miłośników Miasta Bydgoszczy, ul. Bohaterów Westerplatte 2, Bydgoszcz
- 3rd place: Szymon Wasilewski, Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny, Szkoła Podstawowa im. Ignacego Antoniego Zboińskiego, Kikół (Lipno County)
- In the category of students from general high schools, technical schools, and vocational schools:

- 1st place: Norbert Fuminkowski, University High School in Toruń
- 2nd place: Julia Białkowska, Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących in Wąbrzeźno
- 3rd place: Kacper Szeliga, I Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Jana Kasprowicza with Bilingual Classes in Inowrocław
The competition entries addressed one of the following themes:
“About People,” “About Events,” “Family Album,” “Faces of Everyday Life,” “Participation and Role of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Residents in Contemporary Events,” “Aid Given to Jews by Poles During the German Occupation in World War II,” and “My School and Its Teachers.”
The competition was organized by regional self-government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, General Brigadier Prof. Elżbieta Zawacka Pedagogical Library in Toruń, Local Education Authority in Bydgoszcz, General Elżbieta Zawacka Foundation, Pomorskie Home Army Archive and Museum and Polish Women’s Military Service in Toruń.
