The Return of Rail to Rypin and Wierzchucin
Starting in December 2026, at least six pairs of trains will begin operating on the routes from Brodnica to Rypin and from Laskowice Pomorskie to Wierzchucin. The regional self-government, which organizes passenger rail transport in the area, has announced tenders for the operation of these two new lines. Bids are being accepted until May 22.
“We are consistently restoring regional railway connections. In Rypin, regular passenger train service will resume after a 25-year break. I’m glad that in just over a year, passengers traveling to Wierzchucin will also benefit from our offer. With each passing year, the regional rail network is becoming denser,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Between Brodnica and Rypin (railway line no. 33), six to twelve pairs of trains will run. Between Laskowice Pomorskie and Wierzchucin (line no. 208), there will be six to eight pairs.
Passengers will travel in modern, air-conditioned carriages that are also adapted for people with disabilities and equipped for bicycle transport.
For the first month (from December 13, 2026 to January 17, 2027), a special fare will apply on both routes – tickets will cost just 1 PLN. For passengers aged 65 and over, the ticket price will be only 4 PLN for the entire contract period.
Before the trains set off, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe will carry out a comprehensive modernization of the Rypin train station and renovation of the tracks this year. The investment will allow passenger trains to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Additionally, a new railway stop – Brodnica Południowa – will be built near the level crossing on 18 Stycznia Street.
This year, the regional government has also announced a tender for passenger service to Ciechocinek. Train operations will be preceded by the renovation of the railway line from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek.
In 2025, subsidies from the Marshal’s Office for regional passenger transport will amount to 237 million PLN. This includes compensation costs for Arriva and Polregio, as well as infrastructure access fees and station charges – totaling 31.3 million PLN.
The regional self-government also owns 75 percent of the trains operating passenger services in the region. We operate 33 vehicles, which will cover 6.5 million kilometers this year.
