The Marshal Invites You! A Cultural Summer in the Region
The ninth edition of the Vistula Festival in Włocławek, the third Cosmos of Art Festival in Toruń, and the tenth edition of the Nine Hills Festival in Chełmno — three exciting events co-organized by the regional self-government — kick off this weekend.
The queen of Polish rivers not only connects the largest cities of the region, but also unites the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region with a historical and cultural thread harkening back to the days of timber rafting and the river trade craft, when the Vistula was Poland’s and this part of Europe’s main trade route. The upcoming edition of the Vistula Festival, which draws on this tradition, will recall the past lives of riverside towns and the customs of river raftsmen. The event begins this Friday (August 8) in Włocławek. The program includes public boat cruises, photography workshops, educational and culinary stands, a photo open-air event, and concerts. For the first time, the Congress of Vistula River Municipalities will be held (on August 14). A traditional boat parade will also take place. The festival will also pass through Nieszawa, Ciechocinek, Toruń, Solec Kujawski, Zławieś Wielka, Fordon, Chełmno, and Grudziądz.
The Nine Hills Festival is a unique cultural and educational event that has been enlivening Chełmno’s Old Town since 2016, transforming its streets, townhouses, and atmospheric courtyards into spaces for concerts, exhibitions, installations, and shows. Beginning also on Friday (August 8), the festival’s program includes author meetings with Matylda Damięcka, Arkadiusz Jakubik, and Dariusz Szpakowski, as well as performances, happenings, film screenings, and a spectacular fire show.
A meeting with American scientists William John Thomas Mitchell and Celeb Powell Haun Saussy on Thursday (August 7) inaugurated the interdisciplinary 3rd Kosmos Sztuki Festival, inspired by the vast expanse of the universe. Toruń is a place where various fields of art and science intertwine. The organizers invite you to a concert by the Warsaw Sentimental Orchestra with the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, a 1930s-style dance with a period costume contest, a performance by Jacek Kornacki and Maciej Śmietański, and the unveiling of a mural by Mona Tusz in Toruń’s Podgórze district.
