The Holy Father Has Passed Away
The funeral ceremony for Pope Francis will take place tomorrow (April 26) in the Vatican. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Self-Government will be represented by Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska and regional councilor Anna Maćkowska.
“His pontificate was filled with care for the poorest on this earth. Until the very end, he was with the people and for the people,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “Thank you, Holy Father, for your service.”
Jorge Mario Bergoglio (born December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires) was a Jesuit, Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Primate of Argentina from 1998 to 2013, and a cardinal priest from 2001 to 2013. He was elected Bishop of Rome on March 13, 2013. In his homilies and reflections, he often highlighted social issues—care for the sick, the poor, and the homeless. He also addressed the topic of climate change and the necessity of dialogue with representatives of other religions.
In 2014, Pope Francis canonized John Paul II and entrusted our region to his patronage. During his twelve-year pontificate, he undertook nearly 50 international pilgrimages and visited over 60 countries. In Poland, he participated in World Youth Day in Kraków in 2016.
