The Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park is recommended for cycling and walking

In late summer and autumn, it is worth visiting the Gorzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park. You can explore the charms of this area during  hiking and cycling trips and organised educational activities. Over 19,000 hectares of forests, picturesque lakes, a wealth of animal and plant species, and a well-developed educational base make this landscape park a great place for tourism and recreation.

Relaxing in the bosom of nature, among forests and lakes, is an ideal way to unwind at any time of the year. There are many walking and cycling trails running through the Górzno-Lidzbarski Landscape Park, making it a good place for active recreation. Younger and older tourists will also be interested in the activities prepared by educators,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Over 250 kilometres of cycling and walking trails run through the Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park. Nordic walking enthusiasts have 4 trails (a total of 29 kilometres) of varying difficulty at their disposal. Most of the trails are forest roads and avenues. Along the routes, there are boards with exercise suggestions and heart rate measurement points. Tourists can also enjoy six educational trails with a total length of over 35 kilometres.

The Forest School of Discovery educational trail provides information on topics such as forest flora, meadows, tree and shrub species found in the park, and birds of aquatic ecosystems.

A vast spring niche with wild garlic, rare in this part of Poland, is one of the most interesting points on the Szumny Zdrój forest trail. The route starts in the dendrological garden and is equipped with numerous educational boards.

At Lake Lidzbarskie, there is an educational trail running along forest roads through the Klonowo reserve, and then along a charming ravine, up a steep slope to the edge of Lake Lidzbarskie. Walking along it is a real pleasure. An integral part of the trail is the Avenue of Monumental Oaks.

The Jar Brynicy reserve is the main point of the eight-kilometre route running through the forest complexes of the park. Tourists will see here mighty 200-year-old pines with woodpecker nests, as well as the steep ravine of the Brynica River with a viewing point. The reserve was home to the impressive 550-year-old natural monument, the Oak of the Republic. The fallen tree remains in place as a ‘witness’ to this magnificent specimen of nature and the history associated with the site.

For cycling enthusiasts, we recommend the Brynica Springs tourist trail. The 12-kilometre route leads through the picturesque areas of Brynica villages, lakes and the Czarny Bryńsk flora reserve.

The Wokół jeziora Górzno (Around Lake Górzno) landscape trail is perfect for family walks. There is a viewpoint overlooking the town and Lake Górzno, and the historic watermill on Lake Wapionka is also worth seeing.

Enthusiasts of active outdoor tourism can take part in questing. It is a type of field game in which participants follow a trail marked out by clues placed on worksheets. For three years now, the Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park has also been hosting an event for gravel bike enthusiasts – the GLP Gravel competition.

The natural wealth of the Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park is complemented by cultural attractions, including: the hillforts in Radoszki, Górzno and on Lake Księte, the historic churches of Our Lady of the Angels in Bryńsk, Holy Cross in Górzno and Saints Lawrence and Nicholas in Radoszki, as well as the buildings in the village of Wierzchownia.

The Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park was established in 1990. It is located in three provinces: Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship (13,926.79 ha), Warmińsko-Mazurskie (8,482.36 ha) and Mazowieckie (5,122.05 ha). A symbolic erratic boulder is located at the junction of these regions.

The entire area of the park is part of the ‘Green Lungs of Poland’. Its high natural value is evidenced by the creation of two Natura 2000 nature conservation areas within the park’s boundaries – Mszar Płociczno and Ostoja Lidzbarska – as well as seven reserves: Jar Brynicy, Szumny Zdrój, Klonowo, Ostrowy nad Brynicą, Czarny Bryńsk, Mszar Płociczno and Jar Brynicy II.

The headquarters of the Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park is located in Ruda in the Brodnica County. The educational centre is an environmental education centre, which was established thanks to European Union funds under the Regional Operational Programme for the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship for 2007-2013. The facility was adapted from a 19th-century former stable building. The educational offer is addressed to children, young people and adults alike. The teaching base allows for lectures to be held in the centre’s educational room, and the extensive tourist facilities allow for outdoor activities. More information here.
