The footbridge is ready, the road has been rebuilt

Pedestrians and cyclists are already using the new footbridge in Zła Wieś Mała in the Toruń district. In previous years, we modernised all sections of the important provincial road No. 546 connecting Zławieś Wielka with Łubianka. We built shoulders, pavements and cycle paths, and in Łubianka we built a safe roundabout.

We have completed another investment that residents have been waiting for. We managed to plan and implement it in a very short time. This was possible thanks to the excellent cooperation with the municipality, which commissioned the design of the facility and participated in the construction costs,’ emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The new pavement with a footbridge over the Upper Canal connects with the existing section at the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre, creating a safe passageway for pedestrians. The task was carried out on the basis of the Local Government Road Initiative – a marshal’s programme for the joint implementation of tasks related to improving safety on provincial roads. The total cost was PLN 1.7 million. The municipality of Zławieś Wielka co-financed the project with PLN 1.1 million. In total, based on the Local Government Road Initiative, we have completed over 60 projects to improve safety.

In previous years, in cooperation with the municipality of Zławieś Wielka, a pedestrian and bicycle path was built along provincial road No. 546, from national road No. 10 to Złejwsi Mała, with a length of over 2 kilometres. The provincial budget (a total of approx. PLN 30 million) financed a thorough reconstruction of the entire section of the road from Zła Wieś Wielka to Łubianka. The road surface was reinforced, new bus platforms were built, a safe pedestrian and bicycle path was created from Bierzgłowo to Łubianka, and a roundabout was built in Łubianka at the junction with provincial road No. 553 (Toruń – Wybcz). Car parks were also built in cooperation with local authorities. The entire route has been given new signage, and barriers have been installed in dangerous places.

Record spending

We are allocating over PLN 2 billion to the provincial programme for the modernisation of provincial roads in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021-2027 (EFKP 2021-2027), we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional programme for the construction of ring roads. We will also use the central funding obtained (approximately PLN 170 million for ring roads and approximately PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads) for some of the tasks related to the expansion of road infrastructure.
