Talks on high-speed rail
The development of inter-regional railway connections and the shape of the railway network after 2035 were discussed on Tuesday (11 March) at a workshop on the Integrated Railway Network (IRN) at the Marshal’s Office of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship. Local government officials, experts and representatives of local government organisations proposed solutions that will benefit the inhabitants of our region in a few years’ time. Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska took part in the workshop.
– I am convinced that it will be possible to work out and propose new corridors for the regional High-Speed Rail lines,’ said Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska during the workshop. – Also important for the regional government are plans to modernise the existing lines, in order to meet growing passenger demand, raise the standard and speed of travel, and improve the all-important freight traffic.
The conclusions reached will be used to develop transport models – passenger and freight. The Integrated Transport Network Concept will be the basis for the Council of Ministers to set railway investment priorities after 2035.
The meeting was attended by thirty participants, who pointed out the need to improve passenger connections to Poznań, Wrocław, Warsaw and the Tricity. They also emphasised how important connections to Łódź, Central Pomerania and Olsztyn, as well as to Berlin and Prague, are for passengers. Attention was drawn to the need to include Świecie, Kcynia and Szubin in the railway network and to provide long-distance connections to Grudziądz. Transport solutions for the High Speed Railway (HSR) line in Kujawsko-Pomorskie and the connection to Mazovia and Pomerania as well as the Central Transport Port were also analysed.
The regional government has consistently supported regional rail transport. In 2025, the Marshall’s Office’s subsidies for passenger transport will amount to PLN 237 million. This amount includes the costs of compensation for Arriva and Polregio and the costs of access to railway infrastructure and station fees – PLN 31.3 million.
The Marshal’s Office’s investment in rolling stock to date (after taking inflation into account) amounted to more than PLN 571.4 million. Seventy-five per cent of the trains providing regional passenger services belong to the regional government.
