Support for beekeeping
Regional beekeeping associations in Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Włocławek, as well as beekeeping enthusiasts’ associations in Toruń, Złotoria (Toruń County) and Pszczela Wola (Lublin Province) received a total of half a million zlotys from the provincial budget for activities related to the winter protection of bee colonies. Representatives of these environmental organisations, whose activities in favour of ecosystem biodiversity cannot be overestimated, met with Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska, member of the regional board Dariusz Kurzawa, Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Council Przemysław Sznajdrowski and Provincial Councillor Przemysław Ziemecki.
“We have been working with beekeepers for many years on many levels, and our apiary on the roof of the Marshal’s Office is run by professionals. The financial aid provided today to beekeepers throughout the region is also an action for the benefit of the natural environment. Not everyone knows that one third of the food consumed by humans depends on pollination by insects,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The subsidies for individual organisations are as follows:
- Beekeeping Enthusiasts Association in Złotoria – PLN 1,576.36
- Regional Beekeepers’ Association in Toruń – PLN 118,609.16
- Regional Beekeepers’ Association of Kujawy and Dobrzyń Land in Włocławek – PLN 152,049.29
- Beekeeping Enthusiasts’ Association in Toruń – PLN 6,404.89
- Pomeranian-Kuyavian Beekeepers’ Association in Bydgoszcz – PLN 188,364.00
- Polish Beekeepers’ Association ‘Polanka’ (Lublin voivodship, members operate in our region) – PLN 32,996.30.
These funds are earmarked for the purchase of a specialised high-protein feed mixture (bee cake), which will be distributed to beekeepers throughout the province via environmental organisations.
There are 130,000 bees living on the roof of the Marshal’s Office. Five bee colonies have their homes in five hives, which have been providing wonderful honey for several years. The bees collect it by penetrating the immediate vicinity, which is why the honey they produce is based on maple, elm, acacia, hazel and linden nectars. Each time, it is inspected by the relevant services, which have not issued any negative opinions so far. See Our contribution to biodiversity
This is the third tranche of funds allocated to support beekeepers.
