Senior Clubs: Integration, Activity, and Passion

Sports classes, handicraft workshops, foreign language lessons, integration meetings, trips to cinemas and theaters – we are allocating a total of PLN 85 million from the Marshal’s Participatory Budget to establish senior clubs and implement projects aimed at the elderly residents of the region. Grants are awarded through local action groups (LAGs).

“The diverse range of offers aimed at seniors is a response to the growing needs of this social group, which increasingly wants to spend their post-retirement time actively. This is made possible, among other things, by the funds we allocate for the operation of senior clubs and the organization of interesting activities, recreational gatherings, and educational meetings,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The main goal of the funded initiatives is to protect elderly people from mentally and physically degrading isolation and social exclusion. However, as the focus is on social integration, there is plenty of room for activities involving all members of the local community. Senior club members participate in artistic, educational, and passion-developing workshops, physical activities promoting a healthy lifestyle, computer literacy training, and courses on protection against fraud and cyber threats.

So far, local action groups have signed grant agreements totaling PLN 17.5 million. Thanks to these funds, 197 senior clubs offering a variety of engaging activities have been or will soon be established in the municipalities forming part of the following associations: LGD Gmin Dobrzyńskich Region Północ, LGD “Vistula-Terra Culmensis – Development through Tradition”, LGD “Zakole Dolnej Wisły”, LGD Ziemia Gotyku, LGD Bory Tucholskie Partnership, “Partnership for Krajna and Pałuki”, “Partnership for the Kujawy Land”, LGD “For the City of Toruń”, LGD “Drwęca Valley”, LGD Chełmno, LGD Czarnoziem na Soli, LGD Inowrocław, LGD City of Brodnica, LGD City of Włocławek, and the “Our Krajna” Association.

The maximum funding level that municipalities and third sector institutions can apply for is 95% of the project value, with the maximum grant amount being PLN 100,000.
