Safety on the roads in Toruń County

We are modernizing more key regional roads in Toruń County. In the coming months, drivers will benefit from, among others, the renovated road connecting Ostaszewo with Mirakowo. Preparations are also underway to improve lighting at pedestrian crossings and to rebuild intersections.

We are maintaining a good pace of work, and the secured funds allow us to commission further renovations. Our priority is the safety of all road users. That is why we not only modernize roads, build cycle paths, and rebuild key intersections, but also implement a program to equip regional routes with illuminated pedestrian crossings and bus stops. This is our response to the expectations of residents,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The reconstruction of Regional Road No. 258 between Osiek and Dzikowo has just been completed. On the 2-kilometer stretch, new pavement layers were laid, drainage ditches restored, and new vertical and horizontal signage installed. Responding to requests from local governments and residents, curbs were built where additional bus bays may be constructed in the future. Access roads to municipalities were also paved with asphalt. The task, carried out by Colas, cost PLN 3.5 million.

A similar scope of work was previously commissioned on Regional Road No. 569 on a 3-kilometer section between Małszyce and Łążynka on the border with Golub-Dobrzyń County. The work, valued at PLN 6.3 million, is being carried out by Strabag and is expected to be completed within a month. In previous years, adjacent sections of this road in the direction of Dobrzejewice and in Małszyce were also modernized.

In October, resurfacing will also be completed on a 2-kilometer section of Regional Road No. 649 between Zalesie and Kiełbasin. This project, worth over PLN 4 million, is being implemented by Zakład Drogowo-Budowlany Rogowo.

Earlier this year, Toruń County also saw the opening of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge on Regional Road No. 546 in Zła Wieś Mała, as well as the modernization of a section of Road No. 657 in Nowa Wieś with a new cycle path.

A complete road to Mirakowo

Work continues on the reconstruction of Regional Road No. 499 connecting Ostaszewo and Mirakowo. In spring, reconstruction of the first section from Ostaszewo to Sławkowo was commissioned and is now nearing completion. Remaining tasks include laying the final pavement layer and finishing works at access points. This stage, carried out by Zakład Drogowo-Budowlany Rogowo, costs PLN 6 million.

A tender is also underway for the reconstruction of the section from Sławkowo to Mirakowo (together with a section of Regional Road No. 599). With favorable conditions, the entire 8-kilometer road is expected to be ready for use by the end of the year. In the previous decade, in cooperation with Toruń County authorities, a cycle path between Ostaszewo and Mirakowo was also built, partly using parallel local roads.

It is estimated that road renewal projects in Toruń County this year will total approximately PLN 25 million.

More investments in preparation

This year, the regional government has allocated funds in its budget for further road projects in Toruń County. The Marshal’s program of illuminated pedestrian crossings is being continued. Permits are being obtained for works including:

  • Regional Road No. 551 in Kończewice and Chełmża,
  • Regional Road No. 552 from Lulkowo to Lubicz Dolny,
  • Regional Road No. 553 from Różankowo to Wybcz.

EU funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 will support the reconstruction of the current intersection of Chełmińskie Przedmieście and 3 Maja streets in Chełmża into a roundabout. Documentation work is underway to apply for a road investment implementation permit (ZRID).

Documentation and decisions are also being prepared for the construction of a bypass in Chełmża and for a corridor study for a new road network in Łysomice, in cooperation with other road managers.

In cooperation with Toruń County, an agreement has been signed to build a cycle path along Regional Road No. 646 between the railway crossing in Turzno and the intersection with National Road No. 15.

Record spending on roads

The regional road modernization program for the coming years will receive PLN 2 billion. Under the EU Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), our regional program for the new perspective, EUR 136 million will be allocated for road investments, including the regional bypass construction program. Additional central funding will also be used (approx. PLN 170 million for bypasses and approx. PLN 450 million for other road expansions).
