Safety is our priority
On 26 May, one of this year’s most important sessions of the provincial assembly will take place, during which a vote of confidence and discharge for the regional government will be held. The basis for the debate will be two documents: a report on the state of the voivodeship and a report on the implementation of the budget for last year. We present materials summarising the activities of the regional government in 2024.
More than one million zlotys for modern equipment for rescuers, thousands of trained residents, support for services and local governments, intensive cooperation with social and uniformed organisations – this is the balance of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship local government’s involvement in improving the safety of residents and tourists in 2024.
– The regional government systematically allocates funds for the purchase of modern equipment, fuel for patrol boats and the training of firefighters and water rescuers. We are consistently strengthening the sense of security of the region’s residents,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Modern equipment for rescuers – investments worth millions
Thanks to EU funding of PLN 1.1 million, eight Voluntary Water Rescue Service units from the region have been equipped with modern equipment, including scooters, drones with thermal imaging cameras, sonars, boats, rescue sledges and medical backpacks. The leader of the PLN 1.1 million project was the WOPR of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship.
In addition, as part of a training project financed from ROP 2014-2020 (PLN 3.5 million), nearly 1,000 people gained qualifications to work in water rescue. The local government has allocated PLN 120,000 for the purchase of fuel for patrol boats in 2024.
Further investments are planned until 2026 – new equipment, including cars, quads, kayaks, defibrillators and radios will be purchased for PLN 7 million.
Police, State Fire Service and TSOs
Contracts have been signed for strategic purchases in 2024:
- Police: purchase of specialised vehicles enabling the safe transport of police dogs (PLN 1.66 million), and for the purchase of drones and specialised equipment (PLN 2.98 million in total),
- State Fire Service: vehicles and specialised equipment (PLN 6.7 million),
- TSO: equipment and vehicles (PLN 27.9 million). As part of the ‘Safe Kujawy and Pomorze’ project, 107 TSO units will receive, among other things, 29 fire and rescue vehicles, 10 rescue boats, 6 UTVs, specialist trailers, motor pumps, drones and hydraulic tool sets.
Education, prevention and sporting events
The year 2024 also saw intensive education and prevention activities:
- 138 employees of the Marshal’s Office were trained in first aid.
- 570 students took part in the 12th Kujawsko-Pomorskie Safety Knowledge Olympiad.
- More than 700 people participated in BRD tournaments and competitions of youth firefighting teams.
- Events such as the road safety symposium and the ‘European Day without Fatal Accidents’ attracted more than 1,000 participants.
The local government also supported sports and rescue events, including the Polish Water Rescuers’ Championships in Skępe and the “Toughest Firefighter PSP” competition in Toruń.
Activities of the Salutaris Association
Last year, the Salutaris Association provided assistance to 31 local authorities to the tune of PLN 550,000 and to TSO units to the tune of PLN 150,000 for the purchase of equipment. A “Help for flood victims” collection was also organised, which raised PLN 47 000. The association was joined by 3 new members – today it already has 98 local government units.
In the past year, the local government participated in the work of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie BRD Council and the Water Safety Council. An emergency exercise ‘Self-Government – 2024’ was held with the participation of the Polish Army and Days of Honorary Blood Donors were organised.
Further investments and projects to support the emergency services, funded from the new EU perspective, are planned for 2025.
