Safe on the roads in the county of Toruń
The modernisation of provincial road 657 in Nowa Wieś is coming to an end. An important element of the task was the construction of a pedestrian and cycle path connecting the existing roads on the side of Złotoria and Lubicz. In the spring, pedestrians will also benefit from a new footbridge in Zławieś Mała, built along provincial road no. 546. Further road investments in the Toruń district will soon begin.
The scope of work on the extension of a 1.5km section of provincial road No. 657 in Nowa Wieś also included the replacement of soil, construction of a new road structure, road surface and exits, and the construction of a sewage collector. The value of this investment is over PLN 13 million.
Construction of a pavement in Zławieś Mała and a footbridge over the Upper Canal of the Vistula tributary is also underway. The structure of the facility is already complete. In the coming weeks, the contractor will complete work on the pavements. The task, valued at PLN 1.7 million, is being realised in cooperation with the self-government of the municipality of Zławieś Wielka within the framework of the Drogowa Inicjatywa Samorządowa (Road Self-Government Initiative) – a Marshal’s programme assuming the preparation and financing of road tasks jointly with county and municipality self-governments. The investment is planned to be completed in April.
– The Road Local Government Initiative is a supplement to our programme for the reconstruction of important provincial roads. The basis for investments in retrofitting routes with safe pavements, cycle paths and pedestrian crossings are agreements between the regional government and the municipalities and districts through which the new infrastructure is to run. Thanks to these tasks, we are improving the safety of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists,’ stresses Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
We will rebuild roads, illuminate crossings
This year, the regional government has secured funds in the budget for the implementation of further road investments in the Toruń district. The most important tasks are:
- modernisation of voivodeship road no. 569 from Małszyce to Łążynek, length 3 km; the tender is under way,
- modernisation of provincial road 649 from Pluskowęsy to Kielbasin, length: 2 km; tender procedure in progress,
- modernisation of provincial road no. 258 from Dzikowo to Osiek n. Wisła, length: 2 km; tender procedure in progress,
- modernisation of provincial road no. 499 on the section Ostaszewo – Sławkowo, length 3.2 km; the tender is in progress.
These road sections will gain a new surface, shoulders, better drainage and signage. The works will be carried out in spring and summer, under traffic (without stopping vehicle traffic or marking detours).
We are also continuing with the Marshal’s programme to illuminate pedestrian crossings. Documentation is currently being drawn up and field work will begin in the summer. In the Toruń district, this type of task will be carried out on:
- provincial road no. 551 in Unisław, Kończewice and Chełmża,
- on provincial road 552 from Lulkowo to Lubicz Dolny,
- on provincial road 553 from Różankowo to Wybcz.
Further investments
The European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021-27 will help to rebuild the current intersection of Chełmińskie Przedmieście and 3 Maja Streets in Chełmża into a roundabout. See Safe intersections on provincial routes.
Work is also underway on the documentation and decisions necessary for the construction of the Chełmża bypass and preparations are being made for the planning of a new road layout in the municipality of Łysomice.
Record expenditure on roads
A total of PLN 2 billion will be spent on the provincial road modernisation programme for the coming years. Within the framework of the European Funds for Kuyavia and Pomerania 2021-2027, EUR 136 million will be allocated to road investments, including, among others, our regional programme for the construction of bypasses. For some of the tasks related to the expansion of road infrastructure, we will also use the central funding we have obtained (around PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
Currently, the most important road investments carried out on voivodeship roads include
- modernisation of voivodeship road no. 268 from Brzezie to Brześć Kujawskie in the poviat of Włocławek
- modernisation of voivodeship road no. 563 Rypin – voivodeship border in Rypin poviat
- construction of a bypass road in Mogilno within provincial road no. 254 in the county of Mogilno
