Rural Development Programme: small retention for PLN 7 million
A member of the regional board, Dariusz Kurzawa, and Vice-President of the Regional Parliament, Przemysław Sznajdrowski, met today (31 March) at the Marshall’s Office with representatives of the municipalities which have decided to build or modernise their retention reservoirs. Retaining rainwater in such facilities is a necessity in times of climate change, droughts and storms, especially in regions with a strong agricultural sector.
– Every zloty spent on retention issues and improving water relations is very important. We need to retain water in our region – and this is what these kinds of investments are for. Water is life, water is agricultural development. We have to take care of the environment, we have to take care of our farmers,’ said Dariusz Kurzawa, a member of the regional board, before the meeting, during which contracts for financing retention projects with funds from the Rural Development Programme were handed over. He explained that, although steppe formation associated with prolonged periods of drought affects the whole country, the problem is particularly acute for agricultural regions such as Kujawsko-Pomorskie.
He also informed that further competitions for money for such projects would soon be announced. Funds from our regional programme European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie and from the National Reconstruction Plan will be available for the taking.
The 18 agreements handed over today total nearly PLN 7 million. The largest beneficiary, with a total of nearly 3 million zlotys in grants, is the municipality of Czernikowo in the Toruń district, which will build six new open retention reservoirs at its site.
In the RDP 2014-2020, which is finishing with a long delay, our region was allocated PLN 664 million. The contracting significantly exceeded the assumed pool – we allocated PLN 680 million under 2.5 thousand co-financing agreements, but we managed to obtain additional money from the government for projects from the reserve list in the segment of water and sewage management and small retention.
