INFORMATION PORTAL OF THE MARSHAL'S OFFICE OF THE KUJAWSKO-POMORSKIE Region IN TORUŃ

Marshal Piotr Całbecki, along with self-government representatives – including the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Region, Adam Struzik – and scholars specializing in local self-government, took part today in Toruń in a conference devoted to the future of self-governing regions. The event was organized by the National Institute of Local Government.

The starting point for the debate, held at the WSB Merito University campus, included signals pointing to a possible centralization of EU regional policy and EU cohesion policy. Such a shift would entail a reduced influence of regional self-governments on regional development. As early as the 2028-2034 programming period, regional policy may become more centralized, which would clearly diminish the role of regional self-governments in its planning and implementation and, consequently, reduce the flow of EU funds at their disposal. Concerns about financing regional policy are also emerging in the context of the need to allocate substantial resources to defense policy.

“Regional-level self-government has proven its worth. A quarter-century of the regional self-government’s functioning confirms that the administrative reform creating self-governing regions was a successful move and made a very significant contribution to Poland’s development leap during this period,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The host of our region and Marshal Adam Struzik took part, among other activities, in the panel discussion that concluded the event.
