During today’s session (26 January), the regional parliament’s agenda included a presentation by Marshal Piotr Całbecki of the concept for revitalizing the historic brine swimming pool complex in Ciechocinek. The parliament adopted the region’s program for the prevention and resolution of alcohol-related problems and the prevention of drug addiction for 2026–2030. The regional self-government took over the famous thermal brine pool in Ciechocinek in January 2025. The facility was built in the early 1930s according to a design by architect Romuald Gutt and sanitary engineering specialist Aleksander Szniolis. It was an impressive structure in the modernist style. President Ignacy Mościcki attended its opening in 1932. In 2002, the pool was closed due to poor technical condition. After an initial cleanup of the site, we are now beginning reconstruction (revitalization) under conservation supervision, with the principle of carefully restoring the building’s outstanding architecture. The estimated cost of the investment is PLN 140 million. According to the presentation given today by Marshal Piotr Całbecki, the maintenance costs will also be high; preliminary estimates indicate an annual deficit (income minus costs) of over PLN 1 million. Therefore, we are considering partnerships with local governments in this area. We assume that the main part of the complex will initially serve 30,000 people per year, but ultimately—thanks to the addition of many additional functions and attractions, including an ultramodern interactive geological museum of our region—this number could multiply many times over.

The assembly appointed a recruitment committee for the third term of the Youth Regional Assembly. The second term of this body is coming to an end, which means the recruitment process for members of the next term must begin. The recruitment committee appointed by the regional parliament—including Elżbieta Piniewska, Chair of the Regional Assembly; Grzegorz Borek, plenipotentiary of the regional board representing the marshal; regional councillors; three members of the Youth Assembly not running for the new term; representatives of non-governmental organizations; and a representative of the Assembly Office—will select the new representation of regional youth communities based on submitted applications.

The councillors heard a report on the activities of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Self-Government Association Salutaris, presented by the association’s president Andrzej Potoczek. The report includes information on the latest social initiative of the regional self-government: providing residents with smoke and gas detectors. Expanding on previous information, Marshal Piotr Całbecki stated that a tender will be announced today to select the supplier of the first 10,000 such devices. The detectors will be purchased within two weeks and distributed through municipalities to those most in need—people experiencing energy poverty, low-income residents aged 65+, and people with disabilities.
