Pomeranian Philharmonic: Intensive Preparations for the Investment Project and New Concert Programme

Filharmonia Pomorska im. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego w Bydgoszczy is preparing for one of the most important moments in its history. At the end of June, the institution will temporarily leave its headquarters on Andrzej Szwalbe Street to begin a new stage connected with the long-awaited renovation, reconstruction and expansion of the building.

During the investment works, the artistic activities of one of the region’s most important cultural institutions will continue in various venues across Bydgoszcz. The Philharmonic is not slowing down — on the contrary, the coming months will provide an opportunity for even closer contact with audiences in many parts of the city and the region.

The management, musicians’ dressing rooms and administration offices will be relocated to the building at 7 Słowackiego Street, recently vacated by the Akademia Muzyczna im. Feliksa Nowowiejskiego w Bydgoszczy. Final negotiations concerning the lease agreement are currently underway. At the beginning of June, a moving company will be selected to begin the relocation process and adaptation of the new premises for the institution’s needs.

Preparations are also underway for the transfer of valuable works of art from the Philharmonic’s collection. Specialist transport and secure crates will ensure full protection during transportation to new locations.

At the same time, intensive work is ongoing on a new concert programme. The Philharmonic plans to organise events in various locations around the city, creating a unique musical map of Bydgoszcz.

A symbolic expression of this transformation will be the 64th Bydgoszcz Music Festival, which this year will take place under the motto “Contrasts – On the Road.” Festival concerts are planned at venues including the Bydgoszcz Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre, the symphonic hall of the new campus of the Akademia Muzyczna im. Feliksa Nowowiejskiego w Bydgoszczy, the Copernicanum Hall of the Kazimierz Wielki University, the Municipal Cultural Centre hall and the Bydgoszcz Cathedral.

Although the Philharmonic will leave its historic building for some time, it will remain strongly present in the city’s cultural life. On the contrary — the music will extend beyond its walls and resonate even more widely in Bydgoszcz, throughout the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, across Poland and abroad.

The long-awaited and ambitious modernisation and expansion of the Philharmonic building, the oldest musical institution overseen by the regional government, will cost PLN 380 million. The contractor is the Polish company Unibep. The new complex is expected to be completed within 36 months.
