Pilgrims from Kujawy and Pomorze Head to the Jubilee of Young People in Rome

Marshal Piotr Całbecki and President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska today (22 July) welcomed a group of young pilgrims from the region at the Marshal’s Office. These young people are preparing to take part in the Jubilee of Young People in Rome. The trip is being supported by the regional self-government.

“I’m delighted that such wonderful young people will be representing and promoting our region at the Jubilee of Young People in Rome,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “The presence of such a large group of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Ambassadors will be a testament to the engagement and vitality of the young generation from our region. I’m certain that you are about to experience profound spiritual moments and beautiful encounters with peers from all over the world — people of very different cultures and histories, yet often facing similar struggles, and open to both others and to God.”

“They say all roads lead to Rome. I’m glad that one of those roads starts here in Kujawy and Pomorze,” added Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament. “Most important, however, is that each of you finds your own personal path that leads to Rome — a symbol of truth and revelation. Let it become something meaningful for you, a beacon that will guide you. In 1991, as a teacher, I helped organize a high school trip to Częstochowa for World Youth Day. There were one and a half million young people gathered there — rejoicing in each other’s presence, close to the Pope, and surely closer to God. That experience taught me the true meaning of community, and it’s that sense of togetherness that I wish for all of you. Take time to listen to yourselves, to reflect — but above all, to experience real joy!”

A group of nearly 400 young people from Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region will take part in the Jubilee of Young People (28 July–3 August). Some of the participants will begin their journey tonight. Before the main events in Rome, they will spend time in the Umbrian Region for the “Days in the Dioceses.” The highlight of the Jubilee will be the meeting with Pope Leo on St. Peter’s Square. Together with peers from around the globe, the young pilgrims from our region will join in prayers, liturgies, catecheses, and various accompanying events. Among people from diverse cultures and nations, they will also be promoting the values, traditions, and uniqueness of Kujawy and Pomorze.

Today’s meeting at the Marshal’s Office brought together around 70 young pilgrims and their chaperones from the dioceses of Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Włocławek, Gniezno, Pelplin, and Płock.

The Jubilee of Young People, held every 25 years, is not only a religious gathering but also a platform for building community, fostering international dialogue, and celebrating cultural diversity. This special event also marks the 40th anniversary of the first gathering of children and youth in Rome with Pope John Paul II — the initiator and strong supporter of these meetings between young people and the Holy Father.
