Our support for flood sufferers

Marshal Piotr Całbecki hosted Brigadier General Krzysztof Stańczyk, Commander of the Territorial Defence Forces, at the Marshal’s Office today (24 March). During the meeting, the host of the voivodeship accepted thanks for his commitment to flood victims, whose property fell victim to the elements in September last year.

I am proud that as a region we have once again risen to the challenge,’ stressed Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship’s regional government supported the inhabitants of the flood-stricken south of the country from the very first days. We donated PLN 500 thousand each to the Lower Silesia and Opole regions for the reconstruction of transport infrastructure. Even more valuable was the powerful social commitment, individual and collective. Transports organised by the regional government sent, among other things, foodstuffs, cleaning products and tools for clean-up work. Through the Marshal’s Regional Social Policy Centre, we delivered specialised hygiene items to nursing homes. See Real Aid for Flood Victims

We also launched a collection of in-kind aid (six points in Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Grudziądz, Inowrocław and Włocławek and two warehouses in Przysiek and Zławieś Wielka). Donors included private individuals, companies and institutions as well as NGOs.

Firefighters from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voluntary Fire Brigade units, rescuers from our Water Volunteer Rescue Service and employees of landscape parks worked on site.

The task of supporting the flood victims was also taken on by the Marshal’s self-government Salutaris Association, which coordinated the activities of the local authorities included in the organisation, and – in cooperation with the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Chamber of Agriculture – organised transports of feed and cereal mixtures for livestock evacuated from the flooded areas.

Three groups of fifty children from flood-affected Głuchołazy, Stare Las (Głuchołazy municipality), Szybowice (Prudnik municipality) and Moszczanka (Prudnik municipality) were invited to our region. The girls and boys were hosted at our centre in Przysiek, took part in activities and art workshops, and visited attractive tourist sites. See They rest and visit our region
