Our New Bus Fleet – Modern, Comfortable, and Eco-Friendly
The regional self-government is purchasing 25 electric and 15 hybrid low-floor buses to serve intercity routes in our region. The first batch of vehicles will start operating later this year.
“We are the largest beneficiary of the KPO competition for funding investments in zero- and low-emission public bus transport. This is a major success. Following investments in rail fleets and urban public transport across the region, we are now replacing buses serving intercity connections. The role of this segment of public passenger transport in reducing transport exclusion cannot be overstated,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The buses will be comfortable, air-conditioned, and accessible for people with mobility impairments. They will be equipped with an electronic passenger information system, wireless internet, and an additional independent heating system. Each bus will accommodate 50 passengers, with designated seats for the elderly, pregnant women, and mothers with children.
The vehicles will be supplied by ABP Bus & Coach, the selected contractor from the tender process and a representative of Iveco Bus, a leading global bus manufacturer.
The funding, amounting to 91 million PLN, comes from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). The agreement for the co-financing of hybrid buses was signed last week. The second agreement, for the purchase of electric buses, is set to be signed later this month. Due to the project’s scale (over 95 million PLN, with nearly 70 million PLN in funding), it is undergoing a preliminary review by the Public Procurement Office—a routine and mandatory procedure for large projects co-financed by EU funds.
The region’s towns and cities are connected by a network of 70 bus routes. In 2024 alone, we allocated 18.5 million PLN for their maintenance, applying for funds from the Bus Transport Development Fund, along with an additional 6 million PLN from the regional budget.
The regional self-government also funds regional rail connections.
