Our Modern Railway Fleet

Seventy-five percent of trains providing regional passenger connections belong to the regional government. We currently operate thirty-three vehicles, which this year will cover a total of 6.5 million kilometers. The Marshal’s Office railway fleet continues to grow steadily. Soon, another seven modern trainsets, manufactured by the Bydgoszcz-based company PESA, will enter service.

We are consistently investing in improving the quality of passenger transport. By continuously modernizing our train fleet, we are meeting passengers’ expectations. Enhancing comfort and safety remains one of the top priorities of the provincial government,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

All our vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, bicycle spaces, monitoring systems, and are adapted for people with disabilities. The trains are quiet, energy-efficient, and the fastest ones can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.

Our fleet includes:

  • 15 electric multiple units
  • 13 rail buses
  • 5 trailer cars

The regional government continues to invest systematically in purchasing modern trains that replace older units. In 2027, seven new electric trains produced by PESA Bydgoszcz will enter service. The trains currently under production are four-car trainsets with a total capacity of 360 passengers (160 seated and 200 standing), equipped with facilities for wheelchair users and bicycle racks.

The purchase is co-financed by, among others, European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie (EFKP) 2021–2027 and national government funds. The total cost of the seven trainsets ordered by the provincial government amounts to 329 million PLN.

To date, the total value of the provincial government’s investments in rolling stock (adjusted for inflation) has exceeded 571.4 million PLN. Currently, 75% of passenger rail connections in the region are already operated by modern trains purchased by the provincial government.

In 2025, subsidies from the Marshal’s Office for passenger transport amount to 237 million PLN. This includes compensation for Arriva and Polregio, as well as infrastructure access and station fees totaling 31.3 million PLN.
