The Oncology Centre, the Regional Children’s Hospital, and the Regional Integrated Hospital – these are the institutions we are proud of!

Minister of Health Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, who was visiting our region on Wednesday (18 February), toured the Regional Integrated Hospital in Toruń together with Marshal Piotr Całbecki. During her visit, she inspected departments located in the new main building and reviewed the details of the hospital complex expansion carried out between 2017 and 2022, as well as the earlier consolidation process.

Earlier that day, at the Marshal’s Office, she met with the directors of two Bydgoszcz medical institutions run by the regional self-government: the Oncology Centre and the Regional Children’s Hospital (WSD), Prof. Janusz Kowalewski and Director Edward Hartwich. The discussions focused on ongoing and planned investments.

The three hospitals mentioned above are a source of pride in the field of medicine in our region. For years, both the Oncology Centre and WSD have ranked among the top healthcare institutions in major national rankings. The Oncology Centre is the country’s leading robotic surgery centre and the first comprehensive lung cancer diagnostics and treatment centre in Poland. It records 22,000 hospitalizations annually, while its outpatient clinics provide 250,000 specialist consultations each year.

The Regional Children’s Hospital, with 220 beds, 600 medical staff members, and 15,000 hospitalizations annually, performs unique surgical, otolaryngological, and neurosurgical procedures. The Regional Integrated Hospital in Toruń is a flagship example of how a major infrastructure investment – wisely planned, intelligently financed, and well executed – can significantly improve treatment standards.

“All these institutions are continuously modernizing. They have all completed major infrastructure investments in recent years and are systematically purchasing state-of-the-art equipment and medical technology. Currently, WSD is building a cutting-edge organ diagnostics centre, the Oncology Centre is preparing for the expansion and modernization of its main complex, and the Regional Integrated Hospital is planning the construction of a specialist outpatient clinic complex. Because, as we know, in medicine there are no finished projects!” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

During her visit to the Regional Integrated Hospital, where she also met with journalists, Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda pointed out that public healthcare remains the largest item in the state budget. Referring to the successful consolidation of the Regional Integrated Hospital, she noted that medical institutions in the Pomorskie Region underwent a similar process when she headed the regional self-government company Szpitale Pomorskie. Although the process was conducted differently in our region, it was carried out just as efficiently and with positive results for patients.

Jarosław Wierski, President of the regional special-purpose company Kujawsko-Pomorskie Medical Investments, also participated in the meetings with the Minister in Toruń.
