The Regional Parliament in Session
The session began with the swearing-in of a new Regional Councillor, Katarzyna Stranz-Kai, who took over the mandate following the recent passing of Prof. Jacek Woźny. The Councillors observed moments of silence to honor those killed in the war in Ukraine and General Piotr Wagner, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate, who was connected with our region and passed away recently. The Parliament also adopted a timetable for work on the regional development strategy through 2035.
The principles and schedule for work on the 2035 regional development strategy formally concern a new document, but in essence and in practice they mark the beginning of an amendment to the current strategy (in force until 2030). As Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski explained prior to the session, a strategy is a living document and must be regularly evaluated, its assumptions confronted with the current economic and social situation, and updated and adjusted accordingly. Preparing the draft assumptions, conducting public consultations, and developing the final version of the strategy fall to the regional executive board. The role of the Regional Parliament is to adopt this key strategic planning document for the region.
It is assumed that the draft amendment assumptions will be prepared by 13 March. Analytical and conceptual work will continue until August, while public consultations are scheduled for October through December. The regional executive board plans to submit the final draft to the assembly no later than March 2027.
Under a resolution adopted today, the assembly awarded the Honorary Badge for Merits to the Region to distinguished regional cycling coach Józef Dąbrowski, a mentor of Olympians.
Councillors also reviewed reports on the implementation of the regional programs for combating domestic violence and supporting families (both documents were included in the agenda). They approved a resolution prepared by the regional executive board concerning the Wdecki Landscape Park. Its purpose is to adjust the existing environmental protection regulations to local needs and conditions while ensuring the proper preservation of the natural and cultural environment and appropriate landscape protection. The resolution changes the boundaries of the Wdecki Landscape Park as well as the Śliwice Protected Landscape Area and the Eastern Protected Landscape Area of the Tuchola Forest.
