No rural area without good agriculture
Marshall Piotr Całbecki participated last Saturday (10 May) in the European Congress of Rural Renewal and Development (8-10 May), held in Poznań. The last day of the three-day meeting of Polish and European experts, politicians and local government officials and representatives of local communities was devoted to assessing the state and prospects of the Polish countryside and the challenges it faces.
– There are no rural areas without good agriculture, adapted to local conditions. It is different in different regions of Europe, and therefore requires different, tailored and regionally guided support and protection tools. That is why it is so important to involve regional governments in work on the new shape of the European Common Agricultural Policy and its subsequent implementation,” stresses Marshal Piotr Całbecki, who was one of the panellists in the debate on the state of the Polish countryside from a regional perspective.
Other participants in Saturday’s panel discussions included former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski, Minister of Agriculture Dr Czesław Siekierski, Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Paszyk and President of the Agency for the Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture Wojciech Legawiec. EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen was a guest at Friday’s opening session.
The congress, organised by the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was held as part of events connected with the Polish presidency of the European Union. The aim was to present ideas, solutions and best practices dedicated to rural areas and agriculture.
