Four million people welcomed the New Year during “The New Year’s Power of Hits” with Polsat, celebrating at Toruń’s market square and in front of television screens. At midnight, Marshal Piotr Całbecki extended New Year’s wishes to concert participants from a brilliantly lit giant stage, specially built for the occasion.
“Today, heartfelt New Year’s wishes flow from the Old Town Square in Toruń. To all the residents of Kujawy and Pomorze, I wish that the New Year brings only good things, strength to overcome all challenges, and above all, health and prosperity. Happy New Year!” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The event excellently promoted our region. During the concert, the hosts of “The New Year’s Power of Hits” showcased the most interesting locations in the province to a multimillion-viewer audience.
Finally, Toruń-born singer Sławek Uniatowski performed the finale with the song “At last, the world begins to live in harmony, feeling the magic of the night.” The stage also featured performances by Maryla Rodowicz, Kayah, Anna Wyszkoni, Doda, Julia Żugaj, Smolasty, Skolim, Lady Pank, Kombii, Golec uOrkiestra, Enej, and Zenek Martyniuk.
The concert was watched by 3 million people via television and online broadcasts, with over 4 million viewers greeting the New Year with Polsat at midnight. The audience also enjoyed an artistic display of 200 illuminated drones.
Participants from outside Toruń were transported home on the night of January 1 by six special trains operated by Arriva RP and Polregio, commissioned by the regional government. The trains departed for Nakło nad Notecią, Tuchola, Mogilno, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Skępe (Lipno County), and Kaliska Kujawskie (Włocławek County), safely returning passengers to over seventy towns in the region.
The service was very popular. Over 500 participants of the New Year’s Eve festivities traveled toward Bydgoszcz alone. The police ensured passenger safety on the way to the stations, while Railway Security Guard officers maintained order at the stations and platforms.
