Along the modernized eleven-kilometer section of Regional Road No. 268 (DW 268) from Brzezie to Brześć Kujawski in Włocławek County, a new pedestrian and bicycle path will be built. We have just received the Road Investment Permit (ZRID), authorizing the project to proceed.

“Further investments in cycling infrastructure are bringing us closer to creating a coherent network of safe paths across the entire region,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “The new pedestrian and bicycle path will complement the comprehensive modernization of Regional Road No. 268. This is our response to residents’ expectations.”

The surface of the new path will mostly be made of mineral-asphalt mix. Due to the proximity of a historic tree-lined avenue, part of the surface will be constructed using water-permeable material. A utility duct will also be built along the road, enabling the future installation of new networks, such as telecommunications infrastructure, without interfering with the road structure.

The contractor for the project is a consortium of Kobylarnia and Mirbud. The total cost exceeds PLN 62 million, financed through a combination of funds from the regional budget and the Strategic Investment Program under the Polish Government’s Polish Deal Fund.

The modernization of Regional Road No. 268 is being carried out under a “design and build” formula. Initially, the contractor rebuilt underground infrastructure, reinforced the road structure, and modernized the bridge in Wieniec, which is already open to traffic. Last year, work began on laying the new road surface. The project also includes the reconstruction of intersections, construction of bus platforms and bays, and installation of safety features (barriers, road signs, and illuminated pedestrian crossings). This scope of work—carried out within the existing road right-of-way—will be finalized in the second half of the year.

Further Road Investments in Włocławek County Starting This Year:

• Modernization of Regional Road No. 269 on the Strzygi – Huta Chodecka section (2.5 km)
• Modernization of Regional Road No. 269 on the Choceń – Wilkowiczki section (4 km)
• Modernization of Regional Road No. 270 on the Borek – Milżyn section (3 km)

This year, work related to additional lighting of pedestrian crossings in the county will also be completed. The entire package covers illumination of 249 pedestrian crossings and 27 bus stops across the region. In Włocławek County, works include crossings on Regional Road No. 252 (Inowrocław – Włocławek) and Provincial Road No. 317 (Włocławek – Kruszyn). Work on utility connections and energy supply agreements is currently ongoing.

Record Road Expenditures

PLN 2 billion will be allocated in the coming years to the regional program for the modernization of regional roads. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), the region’s new programming perspective, €136 million will be dedicated to road investments, including the regional ring road construction program. Additional central government funding has also been secured (approximately PLN 170 million for ring roads and about PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
