Nawra restored to its former glory – in two years!

Marshal Piotr Całbecki visited the ongoing investment early this morning in Nawra, near Toruń, where conservation and revitalization-restoration works are taking place in the palace and park complex, the future home of the planned Museum of the Polish Landed Gentry.

“I am very satisfied with the pace of the work, which is progressing intensively and involves all the buildings of the complex – not only the main palace, but also the steward’s house, gardener’s house, and the greenhouse. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for our project, for the contractors, and especially for the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Heritage Centre, without which this major undertaking would not be possible,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki, who was accompanied during today’s site visit by the Centre’s director Dr. Marek Rubnikowicz and Jarosław Wierski, President of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Investments.

The palace in Nawra, a local gem of neoclassical architecture, was built between 1798 and 1805 for Konstanty Kruszyński, and later reconstructed to suit the needs of the Sczaniecki family, who resided there until World War II. In the summer of 2022, the Sczaniecki family officially handed over the park and palace to the regional self-government. The mission to restore the complex was entrusted by Marshal Piotr Całbecki to the Heritage Centre, a cultural institution managed by the regional self-government.

The main contractor for the investment is the company Dolmar, which began the work at the start of the year and has a 24-month deadline to complete the project.
