Modern trains to Wierzchucin and Rypin
Passengers will be transported along picturesque railway routes from Laskowice Pomorskie (Świecie County) to Wierzchucin (Tuchola County) and from Brodnica to Rypin by Arriva, which submitted the most advantageous bid in the tender for transport services on these lines. The tender was announced by the regional government, which organises passenger rail transport in the region. We will allocate a total of PLN 28 million to operate the new connections.
‘Our efforts, decisions and work on restoring rail connections in the region are very well received by residents and travellers, who will soon be able to take advantage of our new offer. We will be able to reach Rypin and Wierzchucin as early as December 2026,’ emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
A minimum of six pairs of trains
The regional government will allocate PLN 15 million for services on the Laskowice Pomorskie – Wierzchucin route (with the possibility of extension to Grudziądz and Chojnice) and PLN 13 million for rail services between Brodnica and Rypin (with the possibility of extension to Grudziądz and Toruń).
The trains will start running in December 2026 and will operate until 2030. During this period, at least six pairs of trains per day will run between Brodnica and Rypin, and between Laskowice Pomorskie and Wierzchucin.
The service will be provided by modern trains equipped with air conditioning, toilets adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and space for transporting at least four bicycles.
During the first month of service (from 13 December 2026 to 17 January 2027), passengers will pay one zloty for a ticket on both sections. For passengers over 65 years of age, tickets will cost only PLN 4 for the entire duration of the contracts (until 2030).
Renovation of railway infrastructure
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe in Rypin and Brodnica is carrying out modernisation works on the railway infrastructure. The renovation was preceded by negotiations between the regional government and the railway company, which resulted in an investment that will enable passenger rail transport to be carried out safely and at an appropriate speed.
After 14 years, in December this year, we have restored the railway connection from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek.
The regional government organises passenger rail transport in the region and is subsidising it this year with PLN 237 million. These are the costs of compensation for Arriva and Polregio, as well as the costs of access to railway infrastructure and station fees – PLN 31.3 million.
We have also purchased and own three-quarters of the trains (37 sets) serving passenger connections in our region. In 2027, seven modern electric trains manufactured by Pesa in Bydgoszcz will join the fleet.
