May you live two hundred years!

Despite his advanced age, he still energetically tends to his garden and prepares homemade preserves from his own crops. This is the everyday life of Mr. Stanisław Szafrański from Ostrowitek in Lipno County, who yesterday (25 November) celebrated his 100th birthday. On this occasion, the jubilarian was visited by Vice-Marshal of the Voivodeship Aneta Jędrzejewska together with representatives of the local authorities, who offered their best wishes and congratulations.

Good health and an endless supply of strength and energy! May you live two hundred years!” – wished the jubilarian Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska.

Stanisław Szafrański was born on 25 November 1925 and has spent his entire life in his hometown of Ostrowitek, where his parents ran a farm – still operating today. As a child, he served as an altar boy and helped with farm work. During World War II, he was deported for forced labour and worked digging trenches near Toruń. After the war ended, he returned home.

After the war, he worked in land reclamation for 25 years, cycling more than 20 kilometres one way every day, and after returning from work he tended to the family farm. In 1951, he married Maria, with whom he raised five children. He has nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His wife passed away in 2008.

Today, Mr. Stanisław impresses with his fitness and remarkable life energy. He loves working in the garden, grows his own vegetables and fruit, and also prepares traditional preserves – sauerkraut, pickled peppers, and fruit jams. As he emphasizes, he values food from his own garden the most and only occasionally does grocery shopping. His faithful dog keeps him company every day.
