This year, 139 athletes representing 30 sports clubs from across the region will receive scholarships from the provincial marshal. A total of over PLN 1.3 million will go to talented young athletes. Today (16 June), Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska met with the scholarship recipients during a formal gala.

‘Sport is about competition and striving for victory. Today, we are honouring those who are the best in their disciplines in order to encourage young people to be more physically active,’ said Marshal Piotr Całbecki at the scholarship award ceremony. “It is a great honour for us to award scholarships to these wonderful athletes. May they serve to further your careers.

‘Thank you for your passion, dedication and hard work. You are our ambassadors of a healthy lifestyle and good values,’ added Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska.

The largest number of awardees represent the Bydgostia Regional Rowing Association (38 scholarship holders), the Academic Sports Association of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (16), the Gąsawa People’s Sports Club (11) and ALKS Stal Grudziądz (8). The scholarships ranged from 9,000 to 13,000 PLN per year.

The regional government supports athletes, subsidises the modernisation and expansion of sports infrastructure in the region and the organisation of events. Over three hundred athletes, coaches and sports activists from Kujawsko-Pomorskie were awarded prizes by the regional government in May for their successes last year.

This year, we are allocating PLN 4.7 million for the construction of public activity zones and school gyms.

Next year, Kujawsko-Pomorskie will host the World Indoor Championships, the most important indoor athletics event in the world.
