Marshal’s Hospital in Włocławek Summarizes Spectacular Purchases

The Regional Specialist Hospital in Włocławek is today presenting the largest medical modernization project in the institution’s history — the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment financed through Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO). The acquisitions include, among others, a surgical robot and a specialist robotic system for neurosurgical procedures. The procurement package covered approximately 250 items with a total value of PLN 50 million.

Today’s conference, held at Browar B in Włocławek and featuring renowned neuro-orthopedics specialist Professor Robert Gasik as a special guest, was attended by Member of the Regional Board Marek Wojtkowski and Regional Councillor Sławomir Kopyść.

Combined with the ongoing expansion of the hospital complex, this multi-stage investment and procurement program marks a new beginning, enabling this regional medical facility to improve both the accessibility and quality of healthcare services — including highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures — for residents of this part of the region.

Robotic surgery is a symbol of this transformation: safer for patients, less invasive, and allowing for a faster return to health and full fitness. In many cases, it is now considered a better option than traditional surgery. The Regional Specialist Hospital in Włocławek is already an important point on the medical map of the region, and it is becoming even more significant,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

General-purpose surgical robots, used for procedures such as urological and gynecological operations, are already functioning in several medical facilities in the region, including two hospitals overseen by the Marshal’s Office — the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz and the Regional Integrated Hospital in Toruń.

However, the technologically advanced system for highly precise brain and spine surgeries — consisting of the Mazor X neurosurgical robot (featuring 3D visualization and ultra-precise robotic arm guidance), a neuronavigation system, and a mobile intraoperative imaging device known as the O-arm — represents a technological breakthrough not only regionally but also nationally. The Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek is the fourth hospital in Poland and the first in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region to use such equipment.

Other purchases financed under the National Recovery Plan include:

  • an operating microscope enabling highly precise brain surgeries,
  • a harmonic surgical knife (an ultrasonic scalpel that simultaneously cuts tissue and seals blood vessels using high-frequency vibrations),
  • six modern invasive hemodynamic monitoring platforms,
  • surgical diathermy equipment for the gynecology and obstetrics ward,
  • a plasma sterilizer for the central sterilization unit,
  • and 80 infusion pumps with docking stations enabling integrated management of multiple pumps simultaneously.

The hospital’s new five-story main building — the future heart of the facility — will house:

  • the admissions department and emergency ward,
  • the main operating theater,
  • the maternity ward,
  • the intensive care unit,
  • inpatient wards,
  • the endoscopy laboratory,
  • as well as the hospital pharmacy and sterilization unit.

In line with current standards, the building will also feature a helicopter landing pad for air ambulance services. Construction is progressing rapidly, with completion planned for spring 2027.

At the same time, advanced preparations are underway for the construction of a six-story parking facility with 472 parking spaces on the hospital grounds. The project is being managed by the Marshal’s Office special-purpose company Kujawsko-Pomorskie Inwestycje Medyczne. The facility will include electric vehicle charging stations, among other amenities. Work is currently underway on the functional and utility program as well as obtaining the necessary permits. The tender for the contractor will be announced later this quarter. The first vehicles are expected to use the parking structure in the second quarter of 2028.
