Jan Englert and Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza will receive the Marshal’s Film Award at Tofifest

The awarding of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship Marshal’s Film Award and the Pola Negri statuette to two outstanding actors was announced by Zbigniew Ostrowski, deputy marshal of the voivodship, at a press conference held by the organisers of the 23rd Bella Tofifest International Film Festival in Toruń on Tuesday (17 June). The event, which is financially supported by the regional government, will begin on Saturday (28 June).

Film lovers will be able to watch twelve competition films. The winner of the Golden Angel will be selected by a jury consisting of Gabriela Muskała, Jowita Budnik, Anna Maliszewska, Andrzej Konopka, Piotr Trojan and Tomasz Wasilewski.

The festival will feature the national premiere of the Polish comedy ‘Teściowie 3’ (The In-Laws 3). The programme also includes films by Luc Besson and Krzysztof Kieślowski, Scottish debuts and meetings with filmmakers. The audience will also see productions featuring this year’s Film Award winners – “Skrzyżowanie” (Crossroads) and ‘Sezony’ (Seasons).

I have been observing the festival organisers from the very beginning, and I am impressed by their dynamism and ideas. From a small local event, it has become one of the most important events in Poland,’ emphasised Zbigniew Ostrowski, Vice-Marshal of the Region.

Jan Englert, an outstanding actor, director, educator and professor at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw, will receive the award on Saturday (28 June) during the festival’s opening ceremony. The Pola Negri statuette will be presented on Friday (4 July) at the closing gala to film and theatre actress Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza.

The Marshal’s Film Award, which has been presented for three years, has already been received by fifteen filmmakers, including Jerzy Skolimowski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Magdalena Różczka and Jan Jakub Kolski.

The regional government consistently provides financial support to film productions and filmmakers through the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund. Four films co-financed by the fund are set to premiere: ‘Chopin, Chopin’, ‘Dom dobry’ (A Good Home), ‘Piernikowe serce’ (Gingerbread Heart) and ‘Morderstwo w filharmonii’ (Murder in the Philharmonic).
